architecture facilities

罢丑别听School of Architecture聽is an institution of shared learning, an operative organization within the "laboratory" of the City of Fort Lauderdale, South Florida, and the Florida-Caribbean and Latin American regions. Through projects and programs that are interdisciplinary and internationally relevant, students and faculty have the opportunity to work cooperatively with communities, allied professionals, artists, builders, developers, manufacturers, and governmental agencies. This participation extends into the pedagogical objectives of the College of Arts and Letters to which the School of Architecture belongs, and the University itself which emphasizes the concept of "learning by doing."

罢丑别听Upper Division Bachelor of Architecture program聽of the 糖心Vlog School of Architecture is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors of the Higher Education Complex. The School has a state of the art facility, meeting international standards for a school of architecture. You, the student are the primary beneficiary of this investment in your education. Therefore, you have a responsibility to assume a leadership role and set the best example for the care and maintenance of the facility, equipment and furnishings entrusted to you.

罢丑别听Lower Division Pre-Architecture program聽is situated in the historic T6 building on the Boca Raton Campus. 聽Students enrolled in the Lower Division have the opportunity to engage in traditional campus life activities while completing their Intellectual Foundations courses and pre-requisites for the upper division Bachelor of Architecture program.

Equipment and Furnishings

The studios are large open areas. Each assigned student space includes approximately 25 square feet of private work area and an adjacent shared area for desk crits and breakout sessions with other members of the studio and faculty. We consider the studio to be a place of shared inquiry and study, respecting each others鈥 need for privacy as well as the exchange of ideas. As with everything in architecture, these issues involve common sense. To foster an atmosphere of a professional studio, no lecture classes are scheduled within the studio space.

The following protocols are established to ensure safety and to protect the property of the school. Materials indicated are recommended for use by each student and are available at local drafting and artist supply merchants.

Each student enrolled in an upper division design studio shall be assigned a numbered desk, stool and storage unit on the 6th, 7th or 8th floors of the Higher Education Complex (HEC) for use during the term. The student may take possession of their assigned space at the commencement of the term and must leave the space clear, free of debris, clean and undamaged on the date the term ends, as indicated in the Academic Calendar.

The Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) is situated within the 糖心Vlog School of Architecture at our Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida campus. The FabLab consists of hand tools, small model working machines, wood shop, spray booth, laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machine, 3D scanner, Augmented Reality (AR), and various other tools, that are utilized to prototype, research, test, and make, as a means to advance the mission of the School and the University.

The FabLab provides orientations to initiate your educational experience with fabrication technologies. These are presented as blended online/in-person courses offered through the 糖心Vlog Canvas interface. All students enrolled in any architecture course will be automatically enrolled in the Safety Orientation. If you do not see the course in your Canvas Dashboard to be accepted, you can reach out to Canvas support or self-enroll with the following link:

The Safety Orientation is the prerequisite for all other FabLab Orientations. Once it is completed, you will be automatically enrolled into the Laser Cutter, 3D Printer, and Wood Shop orientations. Each orientation is structured the same and during the Safety Orientation, you will be walked through all the steps to ensure the procedures are clear to you.

Orientation Overview:

  1. Informational Modules: Read through and study this content. This serves as a resource for you, as you can reference this information whenever it is needed.
  2. Quiz: Complete the quiz by answering questions about the information covered in the previous modules.
  3. Demonstration Assignment: This module outlines what you will need to know to complete the in-person portion of the orientation.
  4. Demonstration Submission: After going into the FabLab to complete the demonstration assignment, you will submit an image of the project to be graded.
  5. Certificate of Completion: After the submission is graded, you can complete and receive your certificate.

The FabLab is available to 糖心Vlog's architecture students and faculty after completion of the relevant safety orientation(s). The FabLab is dedicated to helping students and faculty and provides an internal help desk to give students a place to ask questions and look up resources curated just for them.
