What We Do

The聽Office of Research Development (ORD)聽helps researchers and scholars to create competitive funding proposals. The ORD is often the first point of contact when investigators have an initial idea or proposal for research funding. Our services are provided to聽PI-eligible faculty members聽across the university聽).

Proposal Consultation:聽Our office will meet with individuals or groups to provide an overview of the grant process at 糖心Vlog and discuss potential opportunities. 聽

Funding Opportunities:聽We can meet with individuals, colleges, departments, or research groups to provide information on available funding opportunities and will conduct searches to match ideas with opportunities.聽

Potential Collaborators and Team Development:聽Collaborators can increase the competitiveness of a proposal by filling gaps in expertise, expanding impact, or assisting with outreach efforts. Our office can serve as a liaison between internal and external contacts to help investigators identify research collaborators (individuals or organizations) and develop teams.

Proposal Development:聽We can coach investigators through the proposal-writing process, targeting funding agency priorities to strategically improve competitiveness. We also review grant proposals, suggesting revisions to strengthen organization, enhance argument, and ensure readability.

Boilerplates/Templates:聽Our office can also provide proposal templates and suggested language for certain commonly requested proposal sections (e.g., descriptions of institutional programs, partnerships, or processes).

Large-Scale Complex Proposals:聽We assist with large-scale proposals that require extensive research coordination efforts. We work with investigators to ensure that the overall proposal is cohesive.

Research Development Workshops:聽We facilitate workshops and offer programs to enhance proposal development skills.聽

Limited Submissions Processes:聽Limited submissions are funding opportunities that only allow a limited number of proposals to be submitted per institution. 聽We coordinate an internal review process which determines which proposal(s) will represent the institution. If a proposal is not selected, we work with investigators to identify other opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions - Services

The following FAQs are provided to address commonly asked questions from researchers about Research Development. Select question to see answer.

Please visit our Find Funding Page. We also encourage you to set up a profile on GrantForward for funding searches tailored to your interests. If you would like further assistance with identifying relevant funding opportunities, please contact our office for support.

Yes. Since our office assists investigators from departments/colleges across the university, we are familiar with areas of expertise and are happy to help establish connections and collaborations. Our office is also involved in a statewide consortium of universities in Florida, and our staff participate in national organizations, so assistance with identifying external collaborations is also a possibility. Our office also holds events that promote networking and collaboration among researchers. Visit our events page to explore both upcoming and past events.

If investigators would like to identify their own collaborators, another important resource in Florida is

No, our office is focused on strengthening the quality of a proposal. Other proposal components, such as forms, budgets and Novelution, are available through an investigator鈥檚 college or through 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Sponsored Programs Office.

To ensure we can provide you with the best possible service, researchers should contact our office early in the proposal development process. The sooner, the better!

Absolutely. We will always keep investigator proposals confidential and will not share with anyone else (including, and especially, other investigators). In the very rare circumstance that an investigator may want a copy of a proposal, we will instruct them to seek out proposal examples from colleagues directly.

No, proposal reviews always belong to the investigators involved in a proposal and there is no requirement to share with us. Yet, if an investigator is seeking to re-submit a proposal, we may ask that investigator to share a proposal review copy with us in order to help improve the quality of the resubmission. It is often helpful, when providing feedback on a resubmission proposal, to keep the reviewers鈥 prior evaluations in mind. However, there is no requirement for investigators to provide their reviews.
