The Wilkes Honors College (WHC) Peer Mentor Program is a valuable opportunity for incoming students to enhance their collegiate experience at the Wilkes Honors College of 糖心Vlog. As first year students prepare to navigate the university, peer mentors are prepared to assist new students develop the skills and connections they will need to be successful in college. Being involved in a peer mentoring relationship gives first-year and new transfer students opportunities to deepen their relationship with the Wilkes Honors College and Campus Life, to get to know their classmates, and to jump-start their college experience by gaining insight and receiving support from great peer mentors.

The goal of the program is to help first time in college and new transfer students develop the skills and connections they will need to be successful in college. Current WHC students volunteer to serve as Peer mentors and are available to share information about college resources and encourage student involvement such as promoting and participating in events and student organizations on campus.

About the Program

Some characteristics of the program:
  • Incoming first-year students entering the Wilkes Honors College participate in the Peer Mentoring Program
  • Mentors are upperclassman Wilkes Honors College students that are invited to participate
  • The WHC Peer Mentoring program builds upon the strong sense of community among faculty, students, and staff at the Wilkes Honors College of 糖心Vlog
How does the program work?

First Year students are connected with a Peer Mentor at the start of the fall semester. When possible, students are matched based on academic and/or extracurricular interests. Peer mentors and mentees meet in either a group or 1:1 settings at least once a month during the Fall semester and as needed thereafter throughout the Spring term.

Some quotes from our mentees聽

"My mentor was very helpful in answering questions about 糖心Vlog's resources and programs, as well as keeping me informed about current events and opportunities around 糖心Vlog. I never had trouble contacting her for help or information, and our meetings were held on a consistent schedule."

"This program has been really helpful in my transition to the Honors College! I hope 糖心Vlog continues to do the Mentor Program for future students."

"She was very friendly and helpful, I genuinely enjoyed speaking with her and I felt that I could ask her for help with many things."

"It allowed me to meet new people."
