Infrastructure Systems: Data Embedding in Digital Media and All-Spectrum Autonomous Interference-Avoiding Networking

Digital steganography is the science of hiding secret messages in digital media such as audio, images, and video. The Optimal Spread-Spectrum (OSS) method is developed specifically to hide data within digital media that can survive compression and/or noise in wireless transmission. In this project, we compare the OSS method to another method of steganography known as Least Significant Bit (LSB) replacement using a variety of parameters and compression algorithms. We determined that while the OSS method works well under both lossless and lossy compression, the LSB method has significantly higher payload under lossless compression but fails in lossy compression.
